Henry Weekes is a British artist and producer based in Berlin. Their work focuses on the immediate world around them, focussing on site-specific performances that draw on elements of improvisation, choral, folk and jazz music. Having played the saxophone from a young age, Henry recently explored other woodwind instruments as well as extended techniques such as circular breathing that have led to dynamic, multi-faceted performances both as a soloist and in an ensemble. They are also greatly influenced by their Brazilian heritage through their mum, which has led them to perform, DJ and spend extensive time in Brazil and it is still something that is deeply influential today.
Collaboration and collective experience is fundamental to Henry’s practice. This has seen him set up the platform Significant Others, hosting events across Berlin for both local and international artists. This has also seen him collaborate with XJAZZ! and Refuge Worldwide for both curation and event production.
As a musician, Henry has had the pleasure of collaborating and performing with great artists and musicians that recently include Alex Kassian, 30/70, Capyac & Reggie Watts, Ebow, douniah, AKA Kelzz and Pachakuti and been an artist in residence at MONOM 4D Sound Studios, Vila Sul (Goethe Institute, Salvador) and Brewery Studios. Art Installations have been included at Museum of Modern Art Salvador (MAM) and Tilda Swinton’s Ongoing exhibition at the Eye Film Museum Amsterdam.
